It's known as Maths Standard 1 or 2 in NSW, General Mathematics in VIC and QLD, and a broadly similar senior course taught under SACE or WACE in most other Australian states nationwide today.
A strong score varies quite a bit by student and cohort, so there's no single fixed target worth chasing blindly. Most VCAA students focus instead on improving steadily through both Units 3 and 4.
