Child Protection Policy

Last updated 4th June 2023

At Teachers2You, students are at the centre of everything we do. The Child Protection Policy below clearly outlines each of the steps we take to ensure all of our students are safe, supported and comfortable at all times throughout their time with Teachers2You.

Overview:

The Child Protection Policy (the ‘policy’) guides contractors of Teachers2You (‘we/our’) on how to appropriately and professionally behave when interacting with children (minors under 18 years of age) on our online platform, to deliver one-on-one, online tutoring services (‘service’). This policy also outlines the steps taken by the Teachers2You organisation and Director (they) to build and maintain a safe learning environment for all children, that is inclusive, supportive and transparent.

Children’s Participation:

At Teachers2You, children are actively participating in one-on-one, online tutoring services with a qualified, professional teacher via a video link platform (LessonSpace). Each tutoring session is individualised and one-on-one, meaning there is one tutor and one student. To ensure children feel safe and comfortable at all times, parents will always have the option to sit in, or join in via a secure link, the session or remain within earshot of the session at all times. We also encourage feedback from parents and children, and support their right to raise concerns at any point. We respect their thoughts and strive to involve them in any decision-making processes that directly affect them.

Onboarding & Selection Process:

Teachers2You follows a rigorous tutor recruitment, verification and approval process. When applying to become a Teachers2You tutor, all teachers must provide the following documents:

  • Working with Children Check/Blue Card
  • Current Police Check
  • Teacher Registration Verification (confirmation of Teacher qualification).
  • After all documents have been uploaded and verified, a thorough interview is conducted with the applicant to establish an understanding of the potential tutor’s qualities, strengths and any areas of concern that may become apparent.

    Complaints, Management & Reporting:

Should any contractor, student or parent/guardian develop concerns about a student’s wellbeing or safety, a call can be made to 1300 or email to sam@teachers2you.com.au (‘Director’). All correspondence must include the complainant’s full legal name, contact details, corresponding student name and a detailed description of the concerns and date the concern was raises. Please direct all concerns with the subject ‘Child Safety Complaint.’

The Director is a Mandatory Reporter under the Children and Young Persons Care and Protection Act 1998. Should the Director find any cases where a student’s wellbeing or safety may or has been compromised, they will report the matter to the relevant agencies when required.

Any contractor found contravening the applicable laws surrounding this Child Protection Policy or the Child Protection Policy itself will be immediately removed from the platform and cease to engage with Teachers2You until the issue is resolved or their employment will be terminated. Any student found contravening the applicable laws surrounding this Child Protection Policy or the Child Protection Policy itself will be removed from the platform until the issue is resolved or their profile will be terminated indefinitely.

    Training & Support:

All contractors will have access to a copy of the child protection policy, privacy policy, and contractor agreement, detailing all expectations when engaging with students as a Teachers2You Tutor. Our tutors will be encouraged to contact the Teachers2You team, should they have any questions or concerns.

Legislation, Industry Standards & Internal Policies:

This Child Protection Policy conforms with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012 and Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998.

This Child Protection Policy itself is an internal Policy of Teachers2You. It should be read in accordance with the Teachers2You Parent Agreement and Privacy Policy.

    Communication:

Our policy will be discussed during all interviews with prospective tutors. Students and/or parents/caregivers commencing our services will also receive a copy of the Child Protection Policy and Parent Agreement.

    Review:

This Child Protection Policy will be reviewed every two years and will incorporate feedback and suggestions from key stakeholders, including contractors, students and parents/guardians.
